  TOURS - * Bosque de Ombúes   * Barra de Valizas
 
 

The bridge of Valizas - Route 10, km 267 - is the starting point for excursions into the Bosque de Ombúes, located on the shores of Laguna de Castillos, an unique attraction because has more than 100 Ombúes that are aligned along the banks of the lagoon.

The trip trough the Valizas´stream shows a wide variety of birds such as biguás, ducks, white and purple herons, teros, storks, and so on.

At the height of 270 km of Route 10 is the entrance to the bar Valizas, a small urbanization born spontaneously at the shore of the sea, home to fishermen.
3 kms later we arrived at the beach resort and its beautiful beaches.

Undoubtedly the main attraction are the huge dunes nearby, accessed on foot to the south and after crossing by foot or boat the Valizas´stream; including the Cerro de la Buena Vista, where from the summit can be viewed Castillo Grande Island , the beaches,
Cabo Polonio and Laguna de Castillos.


  * Laguna de Rocha   * La Paloma
 
 

To the South, at the interception of routes 10 and 15, you arrive to the fishing community, Barra Vieja , where you can enjoy the lagoon and the stunning presence of the ocean.

Visitors will enjoy a unique landscape with open spaces, vegetation typical of the area, sand dunes and over 220 species of birds and other animals such as turtles, carpinchos, otters, foxes and river lobitos.

This lagoon has 72 square Km and is regarded since 1977 as a national park lake and included within the Biosphere Reserve of the Bañados del Este.


Fine yellow sand and sea combined with an emerald green. Waves give us coloured snails and sea stars wrapped in white foam.

Under the watchful eye of a lighthouse centennial, the tranquility and fun have make La Paloma became one of the country's most popular resorts, with numerous hotels, restaurants, casino, bowling and numerous cinemas.

The beaches are beautiful, there are all kinds and for all tastes. The sea water is salinity, and with exquisite color and transparency.

In the 264 km and a half of Route 10 is the entrance to this beach resort. To get to it, you can chose between to walk 7 km between sand dunes and forest or hire an all-terrain vehicle.

It has three small islands off its coast known as Islas de Torres (La Rasa, La Encantada and Islet) where there is a substantial reservoir of sea lions. It also has an important lighthouse, reference for mariners.

Most homes have no electricity, except for places with own generator. There is also no street lighting, which is one of the characteristics of the site, which shows the night sky like few places in the Uruguayan coast.


It is one of the oldest beaches´resorts in the department.
Located at km 228 of Route 10 and settled on the rocky Punta Rubia, acquires large balcony appearance of the sea, providing unique visitors since its picturesque scenic promenade.

Shows a very particular geography, the great rock cliffs and the beautiful promenade, and the feeling of the people who breathe in the set, make it a place of great charm.

In the main street found their Social Club and the old and beautiful church whose bell belonged to a wreck on this coast, a craft fair, boutiques and a variety of small shops and restaurants.



  * Laguna Negra   * Sierras de Rocha
 
 
Palm trees and more palm trees, birds of every color, yellow sand beaches and green waters are alternated on the Laguna negra, also called de los Difuntos.

The most heroic Fortress of the history of Uruguay, a spectacular park that surrounds it, a natural flora and fauna reserve that can only get to it sailing and the people that work with sharks are just some of the attractions in this area of Rocha.

A few kilometers from the sea and near the city of Rocha, a region of rugged hills, rocky slopes, deep gorges and valleys surrounded by small streams.

This place of unusual beauty, a refuge for indigenous flora and home to a varied wildlife, is designated as Sierras de Rocha.

The rheas surprise on the side of the road; the silence is only interrupted by the voices of birds, and the green, just cut off with remains of old stone taperas, it will be here with an endless beauty and peace unusual.
